Polish the Wood

A good furniture polish will keep the wood conditioned, helping to reduce the likelihood of scratching and keeping the stain vibrant.
Strive to polish the wood once a week. If you can’t maintain that schedule, at least run a duster over the surface then polish every two weeks. Invest in the best furniture polish you can afford to prevent a waxy buildup.
Protect the Surface
Even with regular polishing, sharp objects can cut right through the surface of the wood, leaving behind unsightly scratches and gouges. Keep heavy objects off the shelves and headboard of your storage bed. Be mindful of things like vases, heavy picture frames, decorative bowls and even heavy books. Oil the Hardware

Over time, if this piston or any other hardware surrounding the lifting mechanism starts to be harder to maneuver, you can add a little oil like WD-40 to it. A few sprays should be enough to keep the hardware moving smoothly.
Keep the Mattress Clean
Over time, a mattress can become discolored from sweat, dust and other debris. It is important that youget a professional cleaning at regular intervals to keep it fresh. Clean up any stains right away, such as spilled drinks. If necessary, put a protective cover on the mattress to keep it dry and clean.

Over time, the springs will lose their strength, and the mattress will become heavy with dirt, dead skin cells, and other debris.
