A space saving storage bed is a good investment for any home. For smaller spaces, it can help you make more room, such as by turning your living room into a bedroom. For larger homes, it can help you get the space for the extras you want, such as a home office or a guest room.

The storage beds at Lift & Stor Beds are built to last, but you’ll still need to maintain them properly to enjoy them for many years to come. Here are a few things you need to do to keep your storage bed in top shape:

Polish the Wood

Lift & Stor storage beds online are made of real wood, not particle board or other composites. To maintain the integrity and beauty of the wood, you must use a quality furniture polish on it regularly. A good furniture polish will keep the wood conditioned, helping to reduce the likelihood of scratching and keeping the stain vibrant.

Strive to polish the wood once a week. If you can’t maintain that schedule, at least run a duster over the surface then polish every two weeks. Invest in the best furniture polish you can afford to prevent a waxy buildup.

Protect the Surface

Even with regular polishing, sharp objects can cut right through the surface of the wood, leaving behind unsightly scratches and gouges. Keep heavy objects off the shelves and headboard of your storage bed. Be mindful of things like vases, heavy picture frames, decorative bowls and even heavy books. Sliding objects like these across the surface of the wood can leave behind scratches and gouges.

Also be mindful of water damage. Sitting a glass of cold water on a shelf can leave behind a light ring that you will never be able to polish away. Always use a coaster for drinks, and be mindful of any other potential sources of water damage, such as flower vases.

Oil the Hardware

A space saving storage bed has a hydraulic piston that makes raising and lowering the bed easy. Over time, if this piston or any other hardware surrounding the lifting mechanism starts to be harder to maneuver, you can add a little oil like WD-40 to it. A few sprays should be enough to keep the hardware moving smoothly.

Keep the Mattress Clean

Over time, a mattress can become discolored from sweat, dust and other debris. It is important that youget a professional cleaning at regular intervals to keep it fresh. Clean up any stains right away, such as spilled drinks. If necessary, put a protective cover on the mattress to keep it dry and clean.

No matter how well you care for the mattress, you’ll still need to replace it after seven years or so. Over time, the springs will lose their strength, and the mattress will become heavy with dirt, dead skin cells, and other debris. Make sure you replace it on the right schedule to ensure you have a comfortable and sanitary sleeping place.
